Helpful Databases for BCB

General Databases

Google Scholar

Search for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports on all topic areas. Use GoogleScholar to find articles from academic publishers, professional societies, prepublication repositories and universities.

Summon

Search across most of Gordon Library's resources at once. Use Summon to find books, journal articles, and more. Use the filters on the left to narrow down your search results. 

Summon search tips:

  • Connect your keywords using the word AND.
    • Example:
      • mobile AND health
  • Search for synonyms using the word OR. Nest your synonyms in parentheses.
    • Example:
      • (apps OR applicationsAND housing
  • Use quotation marks around phrases.
    • Example:
      • ​​mobile apps” OR “mobile applicatons” 
  • If your search topic has an acronym, search on both the acronym and the full phrase.
    • Example:
      • CDC OR Centers for Disease Control"
  • Use the * symbol to search for words that have the same beginning letters:
    • Example:
      • Search for telemed* to find results for telemedicine, telemedical, etc.
