There are 2 main databases for company information: Hoovers and LexisNexis Academic.

From the Library Website, click on databases by Subject. Select Business & Management. Hoover’s and LexisNexis Academic are both available from this page. Let’s look at Hoover’s first. From off campus, log in using your WPI username and password.  If you are using a computer at a workplace with a firewall, you may not be able to login. You will need to speak with your IT department, if this is an issue. You can do a basic search by company name. The database generates suggested names of companies. There is an overview of the company and more in depth information about the company. In Key Information, you can see if the company is public or private. Public companies are required to disclose more information to the Securities and Exchange Commission and are easier to research. You can also Build A List in Hoover’s to find companies based on criteria, like revenue, size and industry. For example, you can filter by location. Then click on View Results to see the list of companies. You can sort the companies by name, location, sales or number of employees.

LexisNexis Academic has similar searching options under the Companies tab. Company Dossier is a company search and Dossier Create a List is a way to build a list of companies. You can do a basic search by company name. The database shows the top 3 results and lets you know there are other results with Apple in the name. Use the lefthand navigation to find names of company executives, news articles, legal cases and more. You can also Build A List in LexisNexis Academic to find companies based on criteria, like revenue, size and industry.
