What do I do when an item is returned late?
A: Inform the patron that they returned the item late and report to them any accrued fines.
Do you need a patron’s ID when they return something?
A: No, you can return an item without scanning an ID.
Someone wants to know where their ILL book is – what do I do?
A: Ask if they have received an email that it is ready to be picked up. If they have not, the book will not be ready. Refer to a staff member if they would like to know when it will arrive.
Can a patron check out a tech suite for longer than 3 hours?
A: No. Every booking is allowed to be up to 3 hours with a maximum of 6 hours a week. They will be fined if they keep it longer.
Do faculty and graduate students get fined?
A: No, overdue fines are not applied to faculty or students. They will however need to pay a replacement fee if they never return their items.
Can patrons take reserve books out of the library?
A: No, all reserve books should stay inside the library. Failure to return reserve books will result in large fines. This is also the case for phone chargers and headphones.
Someone is asking for a reserve book that is not on the shelf, what do I do?
A: Look up the book in ALMA or primo to find out if the book is supposed to be on the shelf. If it's not, ask the student to talk to their professor about making the book available at the library. If the book is not on the shelf but should be, let a supervisor or staff member know.
A patron forgot their ID but they want to check out a book. Can I check it out to them?
A: No, nothing can be checked out without an ID. They also cannot borrow a friend's ID. Their friend can, however, check out a headset for them if they come to the desk and present the ID themselves.
A patron reported a leak in the bathroom, who do I call?
A: Let Amy know, or Sam if Amy is not around. If it is an emergency, the facilities extension is x5500.
Can patrons check out books from other college libraries nearby?
A: Yes, we can hand out "ARC cards" to patrons, which is a library card they can use to visit many nearby libraries. Refer to a staff member or supervisor for more information.
