Teach Yourself about AI and ML

A Generative AI Primer - Brian Basgen, EDUCAUSE, 8/23

Written by the CIO at Emerson College, this is an origins story with many helpful readings listed and some definitions.

Ultimate Generative AI Glossary - AIPRM, 11/23

"From exploring foundational terms such as neural networks and deep learning to understanding the nuances of GANs, this glossary has been curated to offer a structured and comprehensive pathway to becoming proficient in the language of generative AI.... Think of each term as a tool, helping you build a stronger understanding and fostering meaningful discussions in this fast-paced field. The Daily AI Workshop (MIT)

Designed for Middle School students. But don't be fooled, these are some great introductions to important concepts if you're new to AI. "The Daily-AI workshop, designed by MIT educators and experienced facilitators, features hands-on and computer-based activities on AI concepts, ethical issues in AI, creative expression using AI, and how AI relates to your future. You will experience training and using machine learning to make predictions, investigate bias in machine learning applications, use generative adversarial networks to create novel works of art, and learn to recognize the AI you interact with daily and in the world around you."

Elements of AI - Free Online Course (MinnaLearn and the University of Helsinki)

What is AI Literacy? Competencies and Design Considerations. Duri Long and Brian Magurko. CHI '20: Proceedings of the 2020 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, April 2020. https://doi.org/10.1145/3313831.3376727

"We synthesize a variety of interdisciplinary literature into a set of core competencies of AI literacy and suggest several design considerations to support AI developers and educators in creating learner-centered AI."

AI and the Future of Work

AI Is Making College Grads Feel Less Prepared for the Workforce (Fierce Education), Annie Galvin Teich, 7/20/23

"Soft skills, like emotional intelligence, negotiation, and persuasion are lacking in today’s graduates. Employers are looking for them, because these uniquely human skills will become more important as AI takes on more rote tasks in the workforce."

How Universities Can Better Prepare Students for a Future with AI (Fierce Education), Susan Fourtané, 8/3/23

"In the future, every job will be an AI job. That was the main take away from an exclusive interview with Gwynedd Mercy University Professor Dr. Cindy Casey by Fierce Education. Dr. Casey discusses how universities can better prepare their graduates to face the future AI jobs."

Generative AI and the future of work in America (McKinsey & Co.)

By 2030, activities that account for up to 30 percent of hours currently worked across the US economy could be automated—a trend accelerated by generative AI. However, we see generative AI enhancing the way STEM, creative, and business and legal professionals work rather than eliminating a significant number of jobs outright. Automation’s biggest effects are likely to hit other job categories."
