The standard source for cited reference searches. Our subscription at WPI includes:
* Science Citation Index: 1980+; abstracts 1991+
* Social Science Citation Index: 1980+; abstracts 1992+
* Arts & Humanities Citation Index: 1980+; abstracts 2000+
Prior to 1980: You can obtain the total number of times an article is cited (if it has been after 1980), but you cannot retrieve the actual references.

Google search for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports on all topic areas. Use to find articles from academic publishers, professional societies, prepublication repositories and universities.

More Databases with Citing/Cited Reference Search Options

Many databases allow cited searching but you will see overlap. Compare cited references from the ISI Web of Science results and manually remove duplicates. Cited references include only those that are indexes within that one particular database. Even by searching Amazon.com now, you can search for instances of your citations within published books.

Finding Citing References within Books

Are you trying to determine whether or not anyone has referenced a book you've published? New search engines now offer some options. For citations within books try the following:

Cited Reference Search can lead to some citations however it can be difficult to track down references to books within others books.
Google Scholar This link opens in a new window
use quotes around book title and author's last name; click on "cited by" (you will also find book reviews and other articles or conference papers that may reference this book in addition)
