This site provides more than 25 easy steps you can take at home, school, the office, and on the road to protect the climate, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution, and save money.

This site has links to different topics related to choices individuals can make to reduce the impacts of climate change.

EPA site that compares fuel efficiency for various makes/models of cars. This site also offers driving tips for greater fuel efficiency.

Use this site to calculate how much you and your household are contributing to the greenhouse gases implicated in global warming. Then, calculate the differences small changes can make.

Advocacy Organizations

Along with individual efforts to reduce carbon use, political action is also considered a critical part of the solution.

Named for the amount of carbon (350 parts per million) considered safe for long-time sustainability on earth. We are now at 400 ppm.  350.org uses online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions to oppose new coal, oil and gas projects, take money out of the companies that are heating up the planet, and build 100% clean energy solutions that work for all. 350's network extends to 188 countries. This is a very active advocacy group.

The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to "conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends." The Nature Conservancy takes a scientific approach to conservation. It pursues non-confrontational, pragmatic solutions to conservation's challenges working with partners including indigenous communities, businesses, governments, and other non-profits.

FOE is an outspoken leader in the environmental community. It seeks to change the perception of the public, media, and policymakers, and effect policy change with hard-hitting, well-reasoned policy analysis and advocacy campaigns that describe what needs to be done, rather than what is seen as politically feasible or politically correct.

A non-organized organization that believes in a front-line, direct action approach to protecting the wilderness. It takes a decidedly different tack towards environmental, ranging from grassroots organizing and involvement in the legal process to civil disobedience. Its mantra is, "No Compromise in Defense of Mother Earth."

Earth First! is a movement of people who fight to stop destruction of the earth when laws are not enough.  There are recently published articles about environmental movements.

Greenpeace is an independent organization that uses non-violent creative action to pave the way towards a greener, more peaceful world, and to confront the systems that threaten our environment.
