Some profile systems calculate your citations and author metrics (such as h-index, i10-index, etc.) and provide a standardized researcher number that may be searched across a number of databases and research platforms. Faculty who intend to apply for promotion or tenure may benefit from building one or more profiles early in their career.

ORCID
ORCID is a not-for-profit entity sustained by fees from member organizations. By creating an ORCID scholars and researchers are uniquely identified and numbered despite name variants or changes, and their numeric identifier is searchable and linkable across database and publication tools.
Google Scholar "My Profile"
Creating a profile in Google Scholar allows an author to gather all their google-indexed publications in a private or publicly available profile. The profile provides a description of their research interests, gathers citations to the author's publications, and generates h-index and i10-index scores for the author.
Publons Researcher Profile/ResearcherID
Publons is a commercial website that provides a free service for academics to track, verify, and showcase their peer review and editorial contributions for academic journals. Your Publons profile is an easy-to-maintain public profile of your expertise and impact built on industry-leading data and metrics.
Scopus Author Profile
Authors with papers indexed in Scopus, they are likely to have a publicly available author profile through Scopus (Elsevier). It behooves authors to check these profiles for accuracy, particularly those with name or affiliation changes, or those with extremely common names, or use hyphens and/or diacritical marks in their names. With perseverance, names may be updated by using the Author Feedback Wizard.
