Finding WPI Theses and Dissertations

The research that WPI graduate students perform has led to numerous discoveries and patents, solutions to critical problems, and advances in knowledge.

WPI graduate students have completed more than 5,100 theses and dissertations at WPI, dating as far back as 1894. Since 2004, nearly all WPI theses and dissertations have been made available freely online. 

Today, more than 1800 WPI electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) can be found online through Digital WPI, through WPI Library Search and through major search engines. 

 - Filter/limit the search for ETDs by department/program and year: https://digitalwpi.wpi.edu/col

  • NOTE: Includes all dissertations and theses completed from approximately 2006 to present, and selected theses and dissertations back to 1999.  For earlier dissertations and masters theses, use WPI Library Search to locate printed or microform copies in the Gordon Library.

 - Search for ETD’s (full text searchable): https://digitalwpi.wpi.edu/col

 - Search using WPI Library Search by author, date, title, or keyword  

  • NOTE: The "Student Projects and Research" search Includes all online dissertations and theses completed from approximately 2006 to present, and selected online, theses and dissertations back to 1999, as well as over 3300 print dissertations and theses completed between 1894 and 2006.  Does not include full text search.
    • To begin your search:
      • From the library home page use the dropdown options next to the search box to choose “Student Projects and Research”, then execute your search.
      • Choose “Refine your results” and then select either “dissertations” or “theses” from the “resource type” options.
        • Online WPI dissertations have the resource type “Dissertations”.
        • Print WPI dissertations have the resource type “dissertation”.
      • You may also choose to sort your results by date, from the “sort by” menu​
