Gordon Library's only elevator is currently out of service, and Campus Facilities is actively working on a repair plan. At this time, the outage is expected to last at least 4–6 months. As Facilities shares updates with the campus, we will post any new information about the restoration timeline here.

If you have questions about accessing services or materials located on the upper or lower floors, please contact Library staff at library@wpi.edu.

The Library will continue to provide up-to-date information on the project as it becomes available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will the elevator be out of service?

A: Campus Facilities currently anticipates an outage of at least 4–6 months. We will update this page as soon as we receive new information.

Q: Can someone assist me in retrieving materials from another floor?

A: Yes—Library staff are happy to help. Email us at library@wpi.edu or speak to someone at the Information Desk. You can also request items easily through WPI Library Search and pick them up from the Information Desk, simply search for the item you want and click the Request button. Please note, you must be logged in to see the request button. 

Q: Are there any alternative options for accessing upper or lower floors?

A: Unfortunately, the Library has only one elevator, so upper and lower floors are currently accessible only by stairs. If this presents a barrier, please contact Library staff at library@wpi.edu so we can help identify alternative ways to access materials and services.

Q: Are there accessible Tech Suites on the main level?

A: Yes—Tech Suites 212 and 217 are located on the main level and are accessible. If you need help booking one of these rooms, or if they’re unavailable, email us at library@wpi.edu and we’ll assist in finding an alternative space.

Q: Can I still order catering for my event in the library?

A: Though you are welcome to cater your event at the library, Chartwells has informed us that they will not DELIVER catering to any events happening on the third floor, first floor or ground floor while the elevator is out of order so please plan accordingly. We recommend using the "pick up" option when placing your catering order to avoid issues with delivery.
