South Asian Studies: Home

South Asia Open Archives (SAOA) is a collaborative, open-access resource for research, teaching, and learning about South Asia. The member-driven collection includes historical and contemporary sources from and about the region in arts, humanities, social sciences, history of science, and other fields in English and other South Asian languages.

The Digital South Asia Library is a program of the University of Chicago and the Center for Research Libraries. It contains scholarly reference books, images, maps, statistics journals and other resources that pertain to South Asia.

The Library’s South Asian collection comprises thousands of titles in over 100 languages. This guide provides an overview of these materials, search strategies, and how to access digital collections, e-resources, and web archives.

The South Asia Digital Collections made available by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London contain several sub-collections on specific topics and regional areas. South Asian collections include Bengali Resources, Bangladesh Collection, Nepal Collections at SOAS, From the Land of Braj, Bhutan Collection at SOAS, Pakistan Collection at SOAS, The F.G. Bailey Papers, India Country Collection, After the Earth’s Violent Sway, Afghanistan Collection at SOAS, Sri Lanka Collection at SOAS, and Yoga Image Collection.

The Qatar Digital Library (QDL) features the cultural and historical heritage of the Gulf and wider region freely available online. It includes archives, maps, manuscripts, sound recordings, photographs and much more, complete with contextualised explanatory notes and links, in both English and Arabic. Regions included in this collection include the following: South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf, the Middle East, and North Africa. There are more than total of 950,000 images available.

The mission of the Panjab Digital Library (PDL) is to locate, digitize, preserve, collect and make accessible the accumulated wisdom of the Panjab region, without distinction as to script, language, religion, nationality, or other physical condition.

UNESCO provides access to publications, documents, and other materials either produced by UNESCO or pertaining to UNESCO's field of competence in this digital library.

The HathiTrust Digital Library is home to millions of digitized books and publications. The team works diligently alongside research institutions to preserve and grow this collection while providing lawful access to visitors around the world.

The South Asia Union Catalogue is an historical bibliography describing books and periodicals published in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, colonial Burma, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka from 1556 through the present and a union catalogue of holdings.
