Library Services For You: Off-Campus Access to Electronic Resources

Off-Campus Access to Electronic Resources

From off campus, all WPI faculty, students, and staff can access electronic resources through the WPI Library Search or the library's database page with their WPI username and password. Accessing resources through the library website while off campus ensures that users are seamlessly connected to all content subscribed to by the Gordon Library.  For more information, see this page: Research Off Campus

GoogleScholar

To access WPI Library resources in GoogleScholar, simply use the library's link to GoogleScholar:  https://ezproxy.wpi.edu/login?url=http://scholar.google.com. When you click on this link off campus, you will be prompted to log in with your WPI username and password. Then when you search in GoogleScholar, you will see WPI links for some articles to the right of your search results. Please note that WPI does not have access to everything in GoogleScholar, but using the link above will help you quickly see what we do have access to. (For articles that the library does not have full-text access to, submit an Interlibrary Loan request).

You can also configure your Google Scholar settings to access the full text of library resources whenever you search Google Scholar.

  1. Go to Google Scholar and into the settings.
  2. Under the Library Links section, search for: Worcester Polytechnic Institute - FullTextFinder@WPI
  3. Select this choice and save your settings.

This will work both on- and off-campus.

Linking to Library Resources

When linking to library resources, such as in Canvas, add the following prefix to the link, if it is not already part of the link: “ https://ezproxy.wpi.edu/login?url=”

See more detailed instructions on how to link to library resources in Canvas: https://www.wpi.edu/library/faculty/teaching-support/course-reserves

VPN

WPI's Virtual Private Network (VPN) may be used for access to subscription information resources through the library but it is important to note that this option is only effective for some users and using VPN for access to library resources is not supported by WPI's ITS helpdesk. The recommended way to access library resources off campus is by using WPI Library Search and the database links on the library's website.
